The Virtual world of "Krakatuk"
As far as you have come to the circus, you certainly think that you will see the tamers and clowns, acrobats and illusionists, and also you will see pacing elephants and dancing monkeys. You will see nothing of these and, at the same time, you will see everything.
As far as you have come to the theatre to watch the fairy-tale of Hoffmann, you would like to see the romantic story of the nut Krakatuk, horrible mice and brave and little girl named Mary, who has met an enchanted prince and found herself in the wonderful town of sweets called Konfetenburg. You will see nothing of these and, at the same time, you will see everything.
As far as you have come to the ballet “The Nutcracker” written by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, you know that you will see the ceremonious dances of guests, keeping Christmas, you will see the snowflakes, dancing in the mystical wind, you will see the sugary dolls and the toy soldiers being on parade and then you will see the mouse army, stepping a horrible dance, crushing everything crossing their path. You will see nothing of these and, at the same time, you will see everything.
You will see a modern version of “The Nutcracker” – the story of a pretty red-haired girl Masha, her fancies and dreams, which are not less romantic than the fancies of ceremonious Mary Shtalbaum from a German fairy-tale, which was written 200 years ago.
You will see the theatre in which everything is possible – flights and transformations, columns of flame and foamy floods. Here all genres supported by new technologies, will merge in one genre to create a new type of a show for which there is nothing impossible. Here the scene uses the circus means when some miracles are necessary to it, and the circus turns to the theatre because it wishes not to amaze with records, but to astonish with beauty and to tell the story.
Here a boy and a girl become such tiny that will get in the palm of the hand, and the usual things will grow till the huge sizes. Here the young Nutcracker – dexterous and flying as Peter Pan - will turn to an athlete and a hero from the freckled boy. In this performance the crowds of live mice and the clouds of white pigeons will amalgamate with the fairy-tale characters born in the imagination of a modern teenager, living in the virtual world of computer and cinema. Hoffmann's mouse army will turn to clanking troops of cybermice. The toys will also change: dolls will not be sugar any more as Hoffmann wrote, but they will be like Barbies, and instead of soldiers there will be terrible transformers and monsters. And the fascinating fights between the army of mice and the army of toys will emerge in air, as in the fantastic action movies most favorite by teenagers.
Certainly, in this world there will be no polka or waltz of 19th century, but there will be sharp and extravagant modern dance. Even music will change a little – you will hear Tchaikovsky as if the today’s teenager hears it in the electronic dj adaptation of modern young composers. But the plot of a romantic fairy tale of a dream and a growing will remain and Masha with the Nutcracker will be drifting across the sky by a paper ship, leaving the won computer enemies together with the child's fear.
